Keisha Lance Bottoms: Crypto as a Nonpartisan Issue and Her New Role in Biden’s Campaign
Keisha Lance Bottoms, soon to be a senior campaign adviser for Joe Biden, recently highlighted the nonpartisan nature of cryptocurrency, describing it as a "nonpolitical and unifying issue" with bipartisan support. Speaking to The Hill on June 27, Bottoms emphasized that crypto and blockchain are evolving the financial system and are particularly beneficial for Black-owned businesses in Atlanta. She aims to address financial inclusion issues impacting communities of color, who are disproportionately unbanked and underbanked.
During her appearance at Crypto Votes Atlanta, an event hosted by Stand With Crypto on June 26, Bottoms called for fair and equitable regulation in the crypto industry to prevent bad actors from tarnishing its reputation. Her interest in crypto began following a ransomware attack on Fulton County by the cybercrime group Lockbit in early 2024.
In addition to her upcoming role in Biden’s campaign, Bottoms has been a member of Coinbase’s Global Advisory Council since April and will continue in this position. She has previously served as the Director of the Office of Public Engagement and Senior Adviser to President Biden, and was the mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022.
